Jonathan Roald Dahls W3, T1

Roald Dahls

Anansi and Turtle

Looking at the title and image on the first page, what do you think the story is about?
I think story is about a Turtle in the front bag you can see a turtle

What are some of the features of traditional tales and fables? What makes them different from other stories we read?  Because they have been passed on from Generation

Where is the story set? You need to identify and look up where this country is.
In the beginning of the story we see that they are telling tales under the moonlight, why are tales often told under moonlight? The story is set in Nigeria really long time ago

We know that this story is ‘retold’ what does the word ‘retold’ mean and can you give an example/ explain further? The story gets retold all over the world over and over

What does the word ‘customary’ mean? What is customary in your culture? (Maybe sharing a meal, or giving someone a compliment)  Customary means it part of your culture

Predict what you think will happen next in the story?
By looking at the photo it look like the where going to have a big fist

What are tricks and how might Anansi trick turtle?
The spider was tricking the turtle he was tall
him to go and wash his hand and when
he goes the spider would start eating the yams
Tuesday:
4-6

Summarise what has happened in the story - this needs to be in your own words.
The Turtle was Woking for a really long time and
he was hang re for a long time and he needed same food
but the spider ticked him so the spider can have all the food
to him self.

Why are they washing their hands? When do you wash your hands?
What might happen next? Why do you think that?
I wash my hand when I am going to eat to get them cleaned up

Tell me about manners and family routines –  We know that in the story Anansi apologises in the first line then tells Turtle off again for having dirty hands.
Turtle only didn't get ticked once he got ticked to times
and it was the same tick

“What might happen next?” “Who is the cleverer of the two?” Think about the fact that Turtle has worked out that Anansi knows Turtle’s hands will get dirty. What might Turtle do?
Ananis is more smarter because he knows that Turtles hand well keep getting dirty

Wednesday:

What does the terms “All the same” mean on the new page? Think about the fact that the writer has begun the new page with “all the same” I think when he said all the same he means that
they both the same

Have a look at careful language of manners – Turtle thanks Anansi and invites him to dinner. Why do you think Turtle is so polite? because he wanted to eat and drink
Turtle was nice and polite because he was hang re and he had to
eat same thing so he asked Anansi.

Anansi’s eyes “bulged” – discuss what this means and why his eyes would bulge. What does this tell us about the character of Anansi? His eye bulged because he was full of yum
and turtle didn't get yams

Identify the setting and how it is different from the place Anansi lives. What do think may happen next? I think were anansi lives

Use the words and illustrations to consider the food Turtle has prepared and how this fits with the traditional story feature of animals with human characteristics.
turtle made a big fits under the water that Anansi couldn't rich

Anansi needs food, how will Anansi get down? What will Turtle do?
Turtle will go down and eat because he can swim
and Anansi couldn't swim so he should just stay up

After reading the story who was smarter? Why do you think this?
I think that Anansi is smarter because he tricked Turtle to
go and wash his hand.
